Alaska Adventure 2009 ~ Part Three

Yesterday netted zero fish. Luckily, Neptune smiled upon us and sent a few our way today!

Due to some high winds, our early morning ocean adventure was postponed until 10:00 a.m. A little extra R & R was much appreciated. This is how our day went ...

Here she is! Our ocean cruiser for the day.

Heading out. Leaving the nasty weather behind.

11:00 a.m. ~ Tom waiting for Captain Bob to find some fish.

11:30 a.m. ~ Joe is ready to go.

12:00 p.m. ~ Tom is worn out from waiting for the fish.

12:40 p.m. ~ Yippee! First catch of the day! Way to go Joe! This Halibut was only 16 pounds. In my opinion, 15 to 40 pounds is the perfect size for the best flavor.

A not so pretty Rock Fish. But mild tasting and good to eat.

This is B.D. (Bad Dog) Captain Bob's 1st - Mate

1:30 p.m. Me taking a break from casting & reeling. It really makes your arms tired.

2:10 p.m. ~ Joe strikes again! This time with a Yellow Eye Rock Fish.

2:15 p.m. ~ Tom's turn. Another Yellow Eye.

3:00 p.m. ~ One awesome fish! A striped Rock Fish. The most colorful one I've ever seen brought in.

Wow ~ Tom caught a Starfish. We kept him long enough for this photo, then set him free.

4:00 p.m. ~ The fishing was real slow, but we came upon this great photo opportunity!

These seals allowed us to get pretty close for our photo shoot.

They are just so cute!

Seems that they enjoyed posing for us!

5:00 p.m. ~ Called it a day & headed back to camp. Ended up with 2 Halibut and 4 Rock Fish. Early to bed and early to rise. Had to get back and pick up Sadie Rose from the dog sitter.

She doesn't like it much, but Sadie is becoming a frequent flyer!

Well, as I mentioned earlier, the fishing was not that spectacular. But we were very grateful for the opportunity to visit Alaska and get some really great photos! Hope you enjoyed your visit too!

Alaska Adventure 2009 ~ Part Two

This morning adventure finds us dressed to the fishing nines, in our waders! We are off to fish in the gorgeous Rivers & Streams. Although the fishing proved to be tough, we did get to see a little wildlife.

These little deer are munchkins, but they are full grown!

Marina at Thorne Bay.

(still looking for fish)

The Island has several gorgeous Rivers and Streams.

A couple of shops around and about.

The first creek we try is Staney (stainey) Creek. The water is rust colored, hence the name.

In search of Salmon. Tom is the serious fisherman of the bunch. Then there is Joe and me.

My friend Victoria in her new chest waders!
We drove and hiked, most of the day, looking for those elusive fish. None to be had. We decided for the next days adventure to try our luck at ocean fishing. So, off to our camps for the evening, 0:00 dark thirty comes early!

P.S. Don't despair, some of the photos from the boat trip are really good!

Alaska Adventure 2009 ~ Part One

This Post is about our very recent annual trip to Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. I am usually the only girl thrown into the mix of fishermen. This year however, I managed to bring along a very good friend of mine, Victoria. We stayed at a very lovely B & B, while the boys stayed at our fishing lodge. As this was a 4 day weekend, I will break the Post into 3 or 4 segments. Well then, let the journey begin ... P.S. The weather was a bit murky. Our dismal photos are proof of this.

6:00 a.m. Take Off! This is the Columbia River. Inside the circled trees above, is where I reside.

Farms are all around us.

We burst through the clouds to find a little blue sky.

8:00 a.m. Landed in Bellingham, WA to top off the tanks. Notice the lovely weather. My Tommy the Pilot, and to the right our friend Joe.

11:00 a.m. Somewhere between Seattle, WA and Ketchican, Alaska

This is Ketchican & those small white strips in the water are Cruise Ships. The weather here is usually wet and gray.

View from the Cockpit. A bit of sun sneaking through.

Klawock, Alaska. We can barely see the runway through the rain.

12:30 p.m. YEAH!!! Another soft landing.

From here we had to drive about 50 miles to reach our destination of Thorne Bay. We walked around the town a bit, then hit the grocery store for dinner, as there is NO restaurant or cafe. We retired early in preparation of the next days big fishing adventure, which always begins at 0:00 dark thirty. So, I am finished for tonight and will Post Part Two of Alaska Adventure 2009 tomorrow! The photos will be a bit better, as the weather dried up some that next day. Nite!
