In the flesh, we may be sipping martinis poolside in the sweltering heat. But our minds are constantly on the runways, where fall furs, fabrics and fabulousness are ferociously making their debut. In the midst of the lines being presented, our attention was snapped to the Simone Collection, which we hear celebrities such as Mary-Kate Olson and Kristen Stewart can’t get enough of. Designed by writer/director/actress Katie Nehra, the fall 2010 line screams feminine with a formidable, tough edge. Part lovely, part savage, it’ll give you one heck of a personality complex.

Summer just wouldn’t be complete without sweet, juicy slices of yummy watermelon. It doesn’t matter how careful you are about taking bites, you will inevitably end up with light pink trails of sugary goodness streaming down your face — which when we were younger served as a delicious afterthought lip-lick and now serves as a perfect opportunity for an impromptu lip-lock with that someone special! Something else that comes with eating the juicy fruit as an adult is enjoying it in a more sophisticated manner. Our favorite is to pair it with vine ripened tomatoes, fresh cut chives and crumbled feta cheese. Yum! And it’s incredibly simple to throw together.
4-5 medium orange or yellow tomatoes, chopped into ½ inch cubes (we sliced them in half and squeezed out the excess moisture before chopping)
¼ of a good sized seedless watermelon, chopped into ½ inch cubes
4-5 ounces of crumbled feta cheese
chives to taste, chopped into confetti-like pieces
salt and pepper to taste
extra virgin olive oil to taste
Gently mix the tomatoes, watermelon, feta and chives in a bowl. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil (about three times around the bowl), sprinkle with salt and pepper and enjoy!Bon Appetit!

Being one of the living certainly can’t be beat, but there’s something to be said about the wonders of being inanimate and yet beautifully lifelike all the same. I’ve always had a mannequin to hold my morning robe, and I’d name her if not for the teasing and odd looks I’d surely get upon someone hearing me say, “Oh Marie-Èlise, you look so good in my silk cover-up today.” But secretly she does have a name... and a personality, if I’m being honest. But that’s a tale for another day... in the meantime, enjoy these snaps of mannequins turned décor...

While on a recent trip to visit my daughter in L.A., we ate at an amazing restaurant called Sur. Not only was the food insanely delicious (Gorgonzola crab risotto, anyone?), the décor was out of this world gorgeous. We fell in love with the wine holder above and have been searching like mad women to find replicas for our homes. Haven’t found the perfect thing yet, but we did stumble upon a few other beautiful options that would work in a pinch:
