Bicycle, Bicycle

So I have to admit: I haven’t been on a bike in probably over 20 years. I’m not even sure if I could stay upright if presented with the opportunity to jump on and fly like the wind. Is the saying, “It’s just like riding a bike” even true? That once you learn the skill, you have it forever? I’m filled with trepidation over the whole thing. It seems so romantic to ride down the street to the grocery store and fill my bicycle basket with fresh flowers and goods. But at the same time, the thought is terrifying. I’d love to hear from any of you who might have had the experience of jumping on a bike several years after learning the skill as a child. Did you survive, or are your knees marred with scars from the lovely pavement?

  1. My fiancé bought me a fabulous pink bike for my birthday a couple of years ago. I had not ridden in probably 20 years but I always loved it as a kid. I was a little wobbly when I first got on, but it is true that you never forget and within a few minutes I was cruising right along like I had been riding every day for all those years. Enjoy. :)

  2. No worries! Once you've learned, you don't forget. You just have to get on and start peddling and you'll take off just like a kid again! I hadn't riden in years but wanted a bike and never even thought about it (course, those big hills are a bitore difficult than they used to be) and I still love coming down a long hill with my legs stuck out to the side, free as a breeze! Give it a try, wear your helmet, and have fun! Hugs, Leena

  4. Hi Chelle, thanks for the comment on slipcovers. Could have done something vintage or cute, but outdoors on patio had to handle the elements and take the hose washdowns, etc. At least it worked! Love your bike photos!! There is just something about them that brings instant memories, not to mention how pretty they are!
